Silken Bonds by Zara Devereux

Whew! I’m finally back home after a whirlwind of travel for the past two weeks. While I definitely had some adventures during that time, I’m quite happy to be sitting in my old bedroom back in the States. Part of that travel extravaganza was spent camping for two weeks in Scotland. Pretty picturesque, right? Right. We didn’t have any electricity, which was fine by me; it just meant that my Kindle and my phone (with a Kindle app on it) were dead for two weeks. That left me with pretty limited reading options. Luckily for me, people before us had left a few books in the camping caravan, one of which was Silken Bonds by Zara Devereux. My friends all started reading it and laughing at its eroticism, but they all admitted they hated the likes of Fifty Shades. I thought I should give it a whirl, and what do you know – I got an interesting review to write about it, too.

First of all, I owe a huge apology to Ms. French. I promised a review way earlier than I’m delivering it; I had some personal matters to attend to, and while that’s no excuse, I’m happy to say that they’re all resolved and I’m back to writing reviews and reading romance like I love. Legally Yours is a new release, and it’s sequel Legally Mine is coming out this summer! If you like my review and Legally Yours, make sure to hit up the bookstores for its follow-up. Without further ado…

What Separates Good and Bad Romance Writing

This post is a guest post, the first of its kind on Roses in Ink, by Patricia Doma, the Head of Communications at Inkitt. You can keep up with Inkitt on Twitter and Facebook.

When a writer begins to work on their first romance novel, they often assume an easy journey awaits them. Powerful words will be flying at the speed of lightning from their fingertips, filling endless pages with fiery, erotic passion that will land their book on the Bestsellers List!

However, their confidence can be a bit premature. Romance is an art form that’s difficult to get right and nearly impossible to master! Indeed, newbie novelists are vulnerable to all sorts of pitfalls during the writing process. So, out of our own kindheartedness, we’ve decided to offer you a heads up. Keep reading to discover what separates the duds from the diamonds within the romance genre.

Writing this review was a sentimental process for me. Taking Chances by Molly McAdams was the novel that made me fall in love with romance books and fall in love with love in real life. It’s an absolutely heart-wrenching story that I won’t be able to praise enough. I hope you enjoy Chase, Brandon, and Harper’s story as much as I did and do.

As much as I wish I had won the book lottery and I had millions of dollars to spend on books, that’s sadly not the case. What does one do in that situation, then? They browse the free Kindle books on the Amazon Marketplace, of course! I was looking for a popular book that I could give my unique opinion on, and when I found Playing With Temptation among the highly rated books, I thought I’d take a look. The story of Logan and Raina was my first Erika Wilde novel, and I hope you enjoy my take on it.

I don’t know if there’s a romance lover out there who isn’t going to be intrigued by big strong men who work in some sort of security, whether it be the police, the military, or some renegade ninja club. Ozzie from the Bourbon Street Boys security falls right into that category. According to May, he probably falls more on the ninja side of things, though the boys plus Toni might put May there, as well. Do some crunches before diving into the story of Ozzie and May; you’re going to laugh so much that your abs will thank you for some prep work.

If you decided to be one of those super stalkers, which is totally okay by me, and read my biography on my about page, you’d have seen that Perfect Chemistry was the first romance book that I read, and I have Simone Elkeles to thank for introducing me to this beautiful genre. I hope you understand how important this book is to me and take the time to read both my review and the novel itself. Brittany and Alex won’t let you down.

A Flaw So Beautiful by Alora Kate

Are there any books that you see that you automatically know that you absolutely have to read? I sure do, one of which was A Flaw So Beautiful by Alora Kate. It wasn’t the title, though that is intriguing, and it wasn’t the the cover, though that, too, made me pause. It was the plot summary. It was so real and desperate and relatable that I was hooked immediately. I messaged the author within five minutes and asked if I could review her novel. She was kind enough to say yes and provide me with a copy of the book, and the rest is history. I promise you that you’ll be as caught up by Lincoln and Ashton’s story just as much as I was.

Facebook groups are absolutely great! There was a social media thread that I was participating in when I received a message from a lady saying she had some romance books she’d loved to have reviewed. Me, being the savvy blogger that I am, recognized the potential relationship in reviewing her books, so I told her to send them over. She was kind enough to ship two paperback books by Amy Rivers (this woman was a helper of Rivers’s) all the way over the Scotland. I hope you enjoy Wallflower Blooming by the one and only Amy Rivers!

Fourth book from StoryCartel! I’m becoming a regular there! Next To You by Julia Gabriel was the find this time. I’m always a sucker for materialistically perfect people with a not-so-perfect past falling in love, so the plot synopsis of this one seemed right up my alley. Curious about my view on Phlox and Jared’s story? The review is just below!
